Collaborating on Making Data and Information Security Visible and Tangible
“Before the coronavirus, organizations were often hesitant to work in a public cloud environment, but now they are mainly experiencing the benefits. The caveat I place here is that security risks have not suddenly changed due to the coronavirus.” This intriguing statement is from Jeannette Custers, Director at KMC Solutions and a long-time trusted partner of Bytesnet. It’s high time we had a deeper conversation with her.
Keeping the Crown Jewels Nearby
Her advice is that what you need quick access to and holds great value for the organization should be placed in a private cloud environment. The reason is that when you want to switch providers or do something else with it, you are bound by a public cloud. “You can’t just bring your crown jewels back,” is how she puts it. That’s why, back in 2012, she decided to place her customers’ crown jewels in the KMC cage in the Rotterdam datacenter at Bytesnet. Speaking of close proximity, we are neighbors, both located in the Spanish Cube building on Schuttevaerweg in Rotterdam.
An interesting anecdote is that on the first day they moved to the Spanish Cube, the power went out. Normally, the entire company would have come to a standstill, but in this case, they greatly appreciated that their neighbor could supply the necessary power. After all, data centers never stop; they keep going. She wasn’t worried because her customers could continue working.
Her Belief in Hybrid Environments
Since KMC Solutions also maps out her customers’ crown jewels and eliminates security risks, they mainly focus on managed private cloud environments. “There are probably very few companies that place their entire data infrastructure in a public cloud,” she notes. That’s why she, just like Bytesnet, believes in hybrid environments; private where necessary and public where possible.
An Intensive Collaboration
KMC Solutions makes security risks visible to its customers. She is proud that with 12 employees, she has built an organization that provides security advice to governments, institutions, and companies that have high requirements for safety, productivity, and flexibility. She employs so-called ethical hackers or penetration testers who test existing customer environments for potential weaknesses. In addition, KMC Solutions provides advice on information security. “Because the number of cyberattacks worldwide is increasing significantly, companies need to structure information security based on ISO 27001,” says Jeannette.
Making Data and Information Security Tangible Together is Why We Chose Bytesnet, but also Because They Are a Green Data Center, Which We Show Customers During Inspiring Tours
The collaboration with Bytesnet means that KMC Solutions can literally make data safety tangible. “Together with Hans den Aantrekker of Bytesnet, we have given many customers tours of the data center to clarify how high the level of security is when you decide to store your data locally with us in the Spanish Cube. It’s that extra sense of security we can give to our customers in this way,” she concludes.
Do You Also Need Extra Attention to Compliance and Digital Security?
For organizations that want to know what it takes to meet the high ISO 27001 security requirements themselves, we suggest requesting a scan from KMC Solutions. On behalf of Bytesnet, we would like to thank Jeannette Custers for sharing her vision.
